  • It depends upon which package and route you choose. You have the option to choose an affordable tour via bus or take a flight and Helicopter. When you are in Tibet, you will use either a Delux bus or a private vehicle(jeep, van).

But according to the travellers and guides recommendation, we suggest travelling from May to June and September to October.   • In the city areas, you can choose accommodation from a normal 3-star hotel to a luxury 5-star hotel in Tibet during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. You will get a room(Dormitory type) with a comfortable blanket, pillow, and shared bathroom.

  • When you make a reservation with a Nepali tour operator, they will arrange the cook and meals for you. The food that they will provide you will mostly be vegetarian Indian and Nepali dishes. For example, Dal Bhat, Pulau, Roti, Paratha, Rajma, Pickle, Salad, Papad, Fruits, etc.
    In the city areas, you will find mostly Tibetan restaurants and a few franchise restaurants like KFC, Burger King, Italian coffee, Yak Sushi, etc. If you want to try food here you have to pay on your own.

  • The food that we will prepare for you will be veg items. Since this is a spiritual and pilgrim tour, we suggest you avoid non-veg items while you are travelling for Kailash Yatra. Still, if you want to have non-veg items, then you can visit the Tibetan restaurant by yourself and have them.

Q 20. Do I need to get the permits for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?

  • Yes, all the travellers who are travelling for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra must get a Tibet travel permit. This permit you can’t get on your own so you need to get through the assistance of a tour operator.
    Before beginning your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, there are the permits you need to have:

  • There will be a communal washroom for men and women in the Guest house. This washroom will be mostly squat type.

  • Although it is not mandatory, we highly suggest that you have travel insurance if you are planning to do this Yatra. There are no advanced hospitals near the mountain area, and for emergency rescue, you might need helicopter evacuation. So make sure to have insurance that covers high altitude risks, flight cancellation, baggage loss and emergency medical expenses.

Q 27. Is There a Chance of Getting Altitude Sickness During a Trek?

During this Yatra, you will ascend to altitudes as high as 5,630 meters (18,471 feet). At such elevations, the risk of altitude sickness is significant. While it cannot be entirely avoided, you can reduce the chances by following a proper acclimatization plan and taking preventive measures.

  • To help prevent or treat altitude sickness, a doctor may prescribe acetazolamide (Diamox). It is important to consult a healthcare professional before using this medication.

  • There are plenty of local markets you can find during the Yatra from where you can buy the things you like.

Q 32. What is the temperature near Mount Kailash?

  • Spring, Summer, and Autumn: The temperature typically ranges between -4°C to -12°C during these seasons.
  • Winter: It can drop significantly, going below 12°C.

Q 33. Do we need to walk on snow during Kailash Parikrama?

  • If you travel during the trekking season, there will be no snow on the trail path. But during the off-season, this trail path is covered in snow.

  • No, Facebook and WhatsApp do not work in Tibet, as they are regulated and blocked by the Chinese government. However, you can use a reliable Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access these services.

  • Yes, you can carry cigarettes and smoke in Tibet, as there are no specific restrictions. However, it is important to smoke only in designated smoking areas. Out of respect for local customs and traditions, avoid smoking near spiritual or cultural sites, such as monasteries and temples.

  • If you choose to do the Outer Kora, it takes 3 days to complete. The total distance of the Outer Kora route is approximately 56 kilometres. The Inner Kora is a more challenging and spiritual route compared to the Outer Kora. It typically takes 1 to 2 days to complete, depending on your pace and weather conditions. The approximate distance covered in the Inner Kora is around 34 kilometres.

Q 37. Can We Take a bath in Lake Mansarovar?

  • Travellers cannot take a bath inside the Lake; however, there are several designated places that are made for bathing. You can take a bucket with you, fill the water from the Lake and take a bath. You don’t have to pay any cost for this.

  • Yes, you can perform the ritual activities in the Lake Mansarovar Yatra. But after completing it, make sure to follow the Leave No Trace Policy.
