Annapurna Circuit is a long-distance trek that circles the world’s tenth-highest peak in the world, Annapurna(8,091 meters).

The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trekking route is quite calm compared to the iconic Everest base camp trek and the Annapurna Base Camp trek. But recently we have seen that more people are attracted to the beauty of the Annapurna Region, and the number of visitors is getting higher each year.

Annapurna Circuit trek starts from the foothills of the Gorkha District and takes you to the remote villages where you can experience traditional Nepalese culture and traditions. Every step you take on the trekking journey is filled with adventure and breathtaking new views.

This trek offers a diverse range of experiences that vary with the seasons, making each journey unique.

Your first trekking journey for the Annapurna Circuit trek with Tilicho Lake mainly starts in the villages of Soti Khola or Machha Khola (at around 930 meters). It will take you to the highest point of the trek, Thorong La Pass, which is situated at an altitude of 5,416 meters. From this point, you can get a mesmerizing view of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Gangapurna, Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Langtang.

During the trekking journey, you will pass through the lush hills, green and Rhododendron forest trail, and the landscape changes into rugged and rocky terrain at higher altitudes. You can see the transformation of the landscape and its beauty on this single trip, which is the main beauty of this trek.

Also while returning from the Journey you will pass through the popular village like Manang and Marpha. Another major highlight of this trek is visiting the Muktinath temple which is the holiest temple and thousands of devotes come here for religious and spiritual reasons. You can see devotees’ sacred baths even in freezing temperatures in the 108 sacred water spouts that will amaze you.

This trek is not only about the diverse landscape but you can also witness Hinduism in the lowlands to Buddhism at higher elevations, influenced by Tibetan traditions. So trekkers can get the opportunities to immerse themselves in the rich culture and tradition of Nepal.

Another highlight of the Annapurna Circuit trek with Tilicho Lake is reaching Poon Hill viewpoints for panoramic views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre.

There are plenty of tea houses dotted along the Annapurna Circuit trekking route where they can stay to accommodate lodging and food. Staying inside the cozy tea house and tasting the traditional Nepali cuisine while enjoying the warm hospitality on the Annapurna Circuit trek will make you want to return again and again.

Even though this trek is challenging, it is safer than other high-altitude treks here in Nepal. With the proper plan and preparation, anyone can join this trek. Whether you are trekking for the first time in Nepal or are a regular visitor, you must experience the Annapurna Circuit trek in the Annapurna region at least once in your life. Annapurna Circuit Trek With Tilicho Lake– Is This Trip Right for You?

The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake is considered one of the most popular treks in Nepal, which attracts tourists with the spirit of adventure and desire to test their physical strength or receive spiritual enlightenment in landscapes and local culture.

The trail covers about 160-230km (100-145miles) through different terrains, from subtropical forests to desert-like regions at high altitudes. This includes crossing Thorong La Pass at above 5,000 meters or 16,400 feet, and for this reason, participants should be in good physical and health conditions, coupled with past trekking experiences.

Acute mountain sickness is another possible problem because of high passes so it is sensible to acclimatize. The trek usually involves planning rest days to help in the adjustment and safety of the trekkers.

In addition to that, trekkers get to see the scenic beauty of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs and get to enjoy the interaction with the locals, such as Gurungs and Thakali, with the possibility to feel the ambiance of their culture and hospitality.

Overall, the Annapurna Circuit trek with Tilicho Lake is one of the recommendations for those willing to take on a high-altitude hike with steep terrains and a remarkable setting amidst the Annapurna range and other high Himalayan peaks, together with a rich context of social facilities and traditions.

Additional Information About Annapurna Circuit Trek & Tilicho Lake Trek

Accommodation in Annapurna Circuit Trek & Tilicho Lake Trek

The hotel lodge or guest house is called a tea house here which provides the facilities and accommodation to the tourists. On the route of the Annapurna circuit trek, various types of tea houses are available for tourists from basic to advanced.

Tea houses are popular stops for staying overnight and enjoying meals. They are typically family-run businesses. Inside, you’ll find small rooms furnished with chairs, tables, and wooden beds with mattresses, pillows, and blankets. At higher altitudes, single rooms are arranged to accommodate 5-6 people comfortably, creating a cozy atmosphere.

Normally, squat-type toilets are common and shared among travelers. Inside, you’ll typically find a tap and a water bucket. Therefore, we suggest trekkers bring their toilet paper.

In some places, you can get a single room with an attached bathroom, especially in the lower altitude. But for this, it will cost you an extra price and you need to tell us in advance for booking. For a normal room, the cost will be included in the package.

Food Available in Annapurna Circuit Trek & Tilicho Lake Trek

Almost all the tea houses that you can find on the trekking routes will provide you with a food facility. At lower altitudes, you can find a wide variety of menu options. As you ascend to higher altitudes, the food variety and service become more limited.

The cost of food items in the mountain region is more expensive than in city areas due to the lack of transportation facilities, necessitating items to be carried by porters, yaks, or mules.

There will be an open dining for the trekkers where trekkers will stay and eat with other fellow trekkers. During the peak time, the tea house might be packed and it’s difficult to get the proper service in time so you need to be patient with meal times and arrangements.
Here are basic common foods that you can expect on the trekking trail of the Annapurna circuit trek;

Breakfast: Breakfast is a great way to fuel your body before you start your trekking journey. Breakfast in the tea house is served in the morning between 7:00 am to 9:00 am. Traditional Nepali breakfast options often include sel roti (a ring-shaped rice bread), chiura (beaten rice), aloo ko achar (potato pickle), along with tea or milk. Here is the list of common breakfast menus that you can expect at the tea house.

  • Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, & juice
  • Eggs any style
  • Ham/bacon/sausage (if available)
  • Toast with butter/jam/honey
  • Chapati, Tibetan bread, muesli porridge
  • Hash brown potatoes
  • Pancakes/crepes

Lunch & Dinner: Lunch is usually the main meal of the day in Nepal. You can have lunch in the tea house between 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A typical Nepali lunch includes dal Bhat (rice and lentil soup), Tarkari (vegetable curry), achar (pickle), and sometimes meat or fish dishes.

Dinner in the tea house is usually served in the evening time around 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. It often includes dishes similar to lunch but can be lighter and more varied depending on what people like to eat.

Here is the list of menus you can expect at the tea house for lunch and dinner;
Pasta & noodles: chow mein, noodle soup, spaghetti, fried rice

  • Various dishes of Momos, traditional dal bhat, pakauda
  • Popcorn, chips, potatoes
  • Spring rolls
  • Pizza
  • Sandwiches & soup
  • Dessert (rice pudding, chocolate pudding, apple or banana fritters)

Best Time for Annapurna Circuit Trek & Tilicho Lake Trek

Depending on your expertise and fitness level, you can trek the Annapurna Circuit & Tilicho Lake Trek throughout the year. However, most people prefer trekking during the spring and autumn months. These seasons are considered the best time or peak times for trekking, not only on the Annapurna Circuit but also on other popular treks such as the Everest Base Camp trek and Langtang Valley trek.

Spring which spans between March to May is the second-best season after the autumn season. After the cold winter, the remnant of the snowfall turns the mountain peak and landscape into beautiful scenery.

The weather becomes clear and a perfect view of the mountain peaks including an impressive view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges can be seen. The blossom of the flowers and the vibrant colors of rhododendrons on the forest trail add to the beauty of the trek to the Annapurna Circuit.

Autumns which spans between September to November is the top choice for trekkers around the globe due to perfect weather conditions and festive seasons. Autumn is considered as the best time to the Annapurna circuit trek and most people travel in this season as they say it becomes easier to pass the mountain pass Thorong La Pass during this season.

Also, clear view of the sky and a panoramic view of the mountain range and opportunities to immerse in the culture and traditions Autumn is the best to explore the Annapurna circuit

Winter, which spans from December to February, is the coldest month of the year, and very few trekkers venture out in this season due to extremely cold temperatures at high altitudes. Trekking in winter is possible but extremely challenging due to several risks like altitude sickness, coldness, and snowy paths.

If you are planning to go to the Annapurna Circuit trek & Tilicho Lake Trek in the winter make sure to equip yourself with proper gear and clothing to deal with the cold and challenges. The best part of trekking in the Annapurna Circuit trek in the winter is if the weather remains clear trekkers are treated to stunning vistas that are ideal for photography enthusiasts.

Monsoon, which spans from June to August, is often avoided by trekkers due to several challenges such as heavy rainfall, floods, landslides, avalanches, and slippery paths. Additionally, bloodsucking parasites in forested areas, such as leeches and mosquitoes, can trouble trekkers. Carrying additional items to protect against these pests increases luggage weight, making trekking more exhausting.
