  • By Flight and Short Trek:

A flight to reach Rara Lake is the most popular, and the easiest way to do this is to take a one-hour flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. After arriving, you can take another flight to Talcha Airport, which is in Mugu District. And following that, it will take 2-3 hours of walking to reach Rara Lake from the Talcha Airport. 

  • By Road:

The adventurous bus trip with bumpy roads starts from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, which will take roughly 14-15 hours. From Nepalgunj, travel to Jumla will take 2-3 days as the roadway is long and off-road. And finally after reaching Jumla, it will take around 2-3 hours of Hike to get to Rara Lake.

What are the Permits Required for Rara Lake Visit?

To visit the Rara National Park all the visitors must obtain the permit as it lies inside the Rara National Park. Permits are mandatory for both local and foreign nationals. Permits required to visit Rara lake are a Rara National Park Entry Permit and a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card. If your chosen route passes through restricted areas within the Mugu district then you also need to obtain Mugu Restricted Area Permit.
