The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a spiritual journey that many undertake for religious and personal reasons. Kailash Trek is known for its challenging terrain and high altitudes, which can make the trek challenging. Here are some of the important factors that contribute to its moderate difficulty level:
One of the major challenges or difficulties that visitors might experience during the Yatra to the Kailash Mansarovar is altitude sickness. It is due to the fact that Tibet lies in a high-altitude area, and the Kailash Kora takes you to the extreme altitude of Dolma La Pass. Walking at such an altitude, you may experience altitude sickness symptoms such as nausea, headaches, and fatigue.
During the Kailash parikrama( Inner Kora or Outer Kora), you need to walk for 6-7 hours in a high-altitude area. This trek will be extremely difficult for those who are not physically fit to walk in difficult terrain and uneven ground. The outer kora takes around three days to complete. At the same time, Inner Kora is more difficult and strenuous than Outer Kora due to the long itinerary days and the long days of walking involved.
Accommodation and facilities in the remote part of Tibet during the Kailash Tour are often basic and may lack modern amenities. Rooms that you will stay in are small twin-size, and bathrooms are often shared among the travelers. Also, wifi connectivity may not be available in every part. You need to depend upon the mobile internet for communication.
There are enough restaurants on the route to Mount Kailash, but these Tibetan restaurants serve only local Tibetan food. Due to this reason, there will be limited items on the food menu as the food during Yatra will be prepared by the cook, who your tour operators manage. Most of the items that will be prepared will be veg, and if you are trying to find gluten-free meals, they will be difficult to find.
The weather in Tibet is mostly dry, and during the night temperature is mostly chilly and freezing. Also, the temperature around Mt Kailash is cold, and those who are allergic to cold might find it difficult during the trek around Mount Kailash. The strong wind and sunshine might harm your skin if you do not wear protective clothing and personal care items. Additionally, weather conditions at high altitudes can change suddenly, so visitors need to prepare for sudden changes in weather conditions.
If you’re among those who find it difficult to stay in a vehicle seat for a long duration, then it can be challenging during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. During this trip, you will ride for around an average of 5-7 hours daily.
Tibetan people don’t speak any international language. You can find local people, even hotel owners, talking in their native language. As a result, if you need anything, you need to completely depend upon your Tibetan tour guide.
During the Kailash Mansarovar yatra, you will be travelling in a group, and accommodation is also shared. Therefore, you can’t expect privacy during the trip.
One of the major challenges or difficulties that you need to face during this trip is long-hour walking stamina and overall fitness. Every day during the trek, you need to walk for at least 5-6 hours to complete the trek.
