Part 2: 8 Days in Tibet – Roof of the World & Land of Sacred Power
A spiritual road trip across ancient monasteries, high passes & timeless towns
The second chapter of the 23 Days Nepal Tibet Bhutan journey takes you deep into the mystical land of Tibet—a high-altitude world where every mile echoes with spiritual power. Over 8 remarkable days, you will travel across the vast Tibetan Plateau, sacred lakes, ancient monasteries, and powerful Himalayan landscapes. This is a soul-stirring experience that blends natural grandeur with deep-rooted spirituality.
Your journey begins with a scenic overland drive from Kathmandu to Kerung/Rashuwagadi Border, a small border town in Tibet. Once across the border and into Tibet, you’ll ascend steadily through dramatic landscapes. As you drive towards Old Tingri, you’ll witness Pelku Tso Lake, a peaceful turquoise lake framed by distant snowy peaks. The rising altitude opens new views and brings you closer to the vast emptiness of the Tibetan Plateau.
From Tingri, you continue to Shigatse, stopping at the historic Sakya Monastery—home to ancient scriptures and stunning murals. In Shigatse, the spiritual power deepens with a visit to the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama. The drive then winds through Gyantse, past the Karo La Glacier, and along the shores of sacred Yamdrok Lake—one of Tibet’s most breathtaking sights—before reaching the spiritual capital of Lhasa.
Continuing on, the route passes through Sakya—home to a centuries-old monastery filled with rare Buddhist scriptures—and leads you to Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city and the seat of the Panchen Lama. At the grand Tashilhunpo Monastery, you’ll witness vibrant murals, golden rooftops, and deep-rooted traditions still alive in monastic life.
The road from Shigatse to Lhasa is one of the most beautiful in Tibet. You’ll cross the Gyatso La and Karo La mountain passes, stand before the shimmering turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake, and gaze at the icy face of the Korola Glacier. Each moment invites stillness and reflection.
In Lhasa—the spiritual heart of Tibet, you’ll discover the essence of Tibetan identity. Explore the iconic Potala Palace, once the winter residence of the Dalai Lama, and walk the sacred Barkhor Circuit beside devoted pilgrims. Visit the Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s most sacred shrine, and step into the quiet chambers of Drepung and Sera Monasteries. You’ll also visit the peaceful Norbulingka Summer Palace and the ancient meditation caves at Dark Yerpa, a powerful site of spiritual retreat for yogis and monks.
The adventure doesn’t end there. From Lhasa, you head toward Rongbuk monastery, the world’s highest monastery, and the Everest Base Camp (north). where you will witness the incredible view of Mount Everest’s north face from the Tibetan side. This is a rare perspective that few travelers ever experience. After soaking in the majestic power of Everest, you begin your descent back through the Himalayan terrain to Kerung and finally return to Kathmandu.
Tibet leaves a lasting imprint on your spirit—its high passes, prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and deep silence across vast valleys awaken something timeless inside you.

We will start our journey in Bhutan with a breathtaking flight to Paro, which showcases sweeping views of the Himalayan peaks. We will then travel to Thimphu which is Bhutan’s capital that features modern city life and dazzling traditional architecture.
