Trip Overview
Nagarkot Dhulikhel Hiking is probably the shortest and the most beautiful trekking/hiking you can do from Kathmandu. After the short drive from Kathmandu, we reach The Changu Narayan temple which is one of the most important temples of Kathmandu valley then the trekking takes you to the alluring hill station of Nagarkot and Dhulikhel to witness the magnificent views of the Himalayas.
Nagarkot is rather famous as a viewpoint to view the stunning views of sunrise and sunset. Towering at an elevation of 2195 meters, it is one of the most loved travel sites near Kathmandu.
Dhulikhel is another popular tourist destination. Dhulikhel carries with it the majestic beauty of nature and numerous cultural and natural heritage. Dhulikhel offers the finest panoramic views of snowcapped mountains and scenic landscapes.
The mountains look like they are floating in the air when the blue haze covers the lower portion of the mountains. The scenic view of beautiful mountains, hills filled with green vegetation, open landscapes, etc makes it a most admirable tourist destination.
Why Choose the Nagarkot Dhulikhel Hike?
The Nagarkot Dhulikhel hike is offered to individuals who want to have a refreshing nature holiday but do not need to dedicate themselves to a more serious and lengthier adventure. And this is a reason why it is a unique decision:
Panoramic Himalayan Views: Nagarkot is the place to enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunset over the Himalayas. During clear days, Annapurna, Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and even some views of Mount Everest can be seen. Dhulikhel is also a place that has fantastic mountain views.
Convenient & Easy to Reach: This hike is close to Kathmandu, thus ideal to visit on a short trip, or to take a weekend break. You save time on traveling and more on the experience.
Easy to Moderate Trek: The route is easy to moderate, which can be taken by the majority of individuals, including families. It is an excellent introductory hiking trip in Nepal.
Cultural Experience: Explore the local villages of Tamang and Newari, observe the local peasant lifestyle, meet the hospitable locals, and explore the ancient temples and stupas on the way to the villages.
Beautiful Nature: Have a good time in the quiet colorful rhododendron forest, the terraced fields, and rolling hills and breathe in the fresh air and natural sounds.
Great for Most Seasons: Every season is unique, and one can have green monsoon scenes (even though mountain views might not be clear) in some cases, bright winter skies, and colorful spring flowers.
Relaxed & Flexible Trip: In 2 days, you can walk at your own pace, capture photographs and view the landscape, as well as you will get enough time for rest.
Best Time to Hike Nagarkot Dhulikhel
The weather is the main factor that affects your hike, especially when it comes to getting clear mountain views.
Autumn (September to November): RECOMMENDED
Why: This is by far regarded as the most appropriate time. The atmosphere remains cleared by the monsoon rains and the skies are crystal clear, the mountain view is impressive, temperatures are comfortable, and landscapes appear lush and green.
Spring (March to May): EXCELLENT
Why: Also an excellent choice. The weather is pleasant with temperatures, the sky is mostly clear (particularly during early spring), and the hills are alive with the rhododendrons (which are the national flower of Nepal) and other wild flowers.
Winter (December to February): GOOD for views, COLD for comfort
Why: Days are commonly quite clear with stunning mountain views. It is however very very cold, particularly in the mornings and evenings, and there is always the threat of slight snowfall on higher levels (but can hardly be expected to interfere with this route). Pack warm layers!
Monsoon (June to August): AVOID for mountain views
Why: Although the sceneries are extremely green and fertile, during heavy rain fall, trails become slippery and leeches are prevalent. Importantly, on many occasions, the mountain views are obscured by clouds throughout many days, which fail to accomplish one of the primary objectives of this trek.
