Lumbini is a sacred arena as God Buddha was born here in southern Nepal more than 2,500 years ago. As a sacred birthplace of him, it is a significant pilgrimage site for Buddhists from all around the world. Many excavations have taken place here to show and prove to the world that Buddha was born here and save this place for the Future. Ruins of the ancient old city are clearly manifest and many artifacts had been discovered during the excavation.

Shakyamuni Buddha was born a prince to the ruler of the little kingdom. The most important landmarks are the Maya Devi Temple and the Ashoka Pillar. The remains of many ancient stupas and monasteries can be found in the surroundings of that Ashoka pillar and Maya Devi temple. The Ashoka pillar is said to have been constructed by the Indian Emperor Ashoka in 250 BC with an inscription confirming this as the birthplace of the Buddha. A stone representation of Maya Devi giving birth to Lord Buddha as she holds onto a branch is seen in the Maya Devi Temple.

After the Sightseeing tour of Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, you’ll continue on a scenic drive to your next destination.

To Kathmandu:
Set off early from Lumbini to Kathmandu, a journey that takes you through a tapestry of landscapes. You’ll traverse the Terai plains, gradually ascending into the hilly terrain of central Nepal. As you approach Kathmandu, the bustling capital, you’ll witness a transition from serene countryside to a vibrant cityscape. Expect a drive of around 8-10 hours, with opportunities to enjoy the diverse scenery and local roadside culture along the way.

To Pokhara:
For those heading to Pokhara, the drive is equally captivating. You’ll leave the flat Terai region and start winding through the hills of Tansen, Tansen is a small ancient hill town located 1,350 meters above sea level. The route takes around 6-7 hours, On the way catch the great view of the Himalayas, and the countryside of Nepal, and cross a lot of alpine forests, many green hills, and riverside. Pokhara offers magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhare, Annapurna, and Lamjung Himal. In the evening boating in the Fewa Lake and hiking up to World Peace Stupa for a Sunset view over the Pokhara Valley and the beautiful Annapurna massif. A perfect ending for your day!

To Chitwan National Park:
If your journey leads to Chitwan National Park, prepare for a drive of approximately 4-6 hours. The route takes you from Lumbini through fertile plains and small villages, eventually reaching the lush jungle of Chitwan. As you near your destination, the landscape becomes increasingly green and dense, setting the stage for exciting wildlife adventures in one of Nepal’s premier national parks.
