How To Prepare for Kailash Mansarovar Tour from Hilsa by Helicopter
Here is some expert advice to help you handle the challenges that may arise during this luxury tour to Kailash Mansarovar.
Understanding the Journey and its Challenges:
Altitude: Probably the main difficulty is the elevation level: the mountains are very high, while the oxygen is very thin. Even Hilsa is situated at quite a high altitude and the areas around Mount Kailash and Mansarovar are relatively higher in comparison. AMS or Altitude sickness is very possible.
Weather: This region experiences a lot of fluctuation when it comes to weather conditions. Forecasts range from cold weather, intense winds as well as abrupt changes in weather conditions are expected. Still, it is necessary to dress warm from head to toe even in the summer season.
Short Stay: Most of the time, the helicopter tour is briefly conducted in the region and could take between a few hours only. This means you need to use the time effectively and also be prepared to possibly not even get to do much.
Limited Facilities: Basic facilities are available in town but once you reach near religious premises the facility becomes limited.
Pre-Trip Medical Check-up and Consultation:
Essential Step: Check with your health care provider before your trip to ensure you are in good health. Inform them of any previous conditions they had that might hinder them from traveling at such altitude and seek their permission to do so.
Altitude Sickness Medication: As you know that there is a high chance of having altitude sickness so follow the altitude sickness preventive measures and take Diamox before heading high altitude by consulting with a doctor.
Physical Fitness: Even though you will trek only for 2-3 days in a high altitude area it can be strenuous especially for the beginners. So prepare physically by engaging in cardiovascular exercise, strength training or you can even join a gym or meditation class.
Vaccinations: Get your immunizations in order, and discuss the particular immunizations with your doctor that is necessary when traveling to Tibet/China.
Packing Essentials:
Warm Clothing: Pack layers of thermal wear, fleece jackets, a heavy down jacket, waterproof, windproof outer layers, warm hats, gloves, and scarves.
Comfortable Walking Shoes: Even with the helicopter transfer, you might need to walk in uneven and steep terrain so it’s mandatory for you to wear comfortable best quality trekking shoes.
Emergency Supplies: Carry a small first-aid kit with essentials like painkillers, band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and any personal medications.
Sun Protection: Pack sunscreen with a high SPF, sunglasses (polarized), lip balm and a wide-brimmed hat.
Personal Hygiene Items: Pack toiletries, including hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and any other personal care items you might need.
Camera Gear: Carry a portable camera like go-pro with some extra batteries.
Cash: Keep some local currency (Chinese Yuan) for small expenses, as credit card or ATM facilities are very limited in remote regions of Tibet.
Important Documents: Ensure your passport, visa, and permits are readily available. Keep copies of these essential documents in a separate location.
Spiritual Items: If you wish, carry prayer beads, spiritual texts, or any other items you find comforting for your pilgrimage.
Acclimatization:
Spending Time in Kathmandu/Nepalgunj: If possible, spend a day in
Nepalgunj before heading to Hilsa. This will help your body acclimatize to the higher altitude, reducing the risk of AMS.
Hydration: Carry reusable water bottles and drink plenty of water throughout your journey to prevent dehydration and reduce altitude sickness.
Avoid Alcohol and Smoking: Alcohol and smoking can trigger altitude sickness therefore refrain from consuming.
Rest and Pace: Once you are at high altitude during Kailash kora or holy sites make sure to avoid strenuous activities and always walk at your own pace. Give your body time to adjust and take enough rest.
Choosing a Reputable Tour Operator:
Experience and Reputation: Select a tour operator specializing in Kailash Mansarovar tours by helicopter. Check their experience, reviews, and credentials.
Permits and Visa: Ensure the tour operator handles all the necessary permits and visa requirements efficiently.
Safety Measures: Inquire about their safety protocols and emergency plans in case of unforeseen circumstances during Kailash Mansarovar Helicopter Tour.
Itinerary and Inclusions: Carefully review all the itinerary and understand what’s included in the tour package, including accommodation, food, and ground transportation
Mental and Spiritual Preparation:
Intention: Focus on your spiritual intentions for the pilgrimage and reflect on the significance of your journey.
Openness: Be prepared to encounter new cultures and experiences. Be respectful and open to the local traditions during the trip.
Patience: Be patient and understanding. The journey might have delays or unexpected changes, and maintaining a positive mindset is crucial.

Our plan is to get up early today, shower, and drive to Darchen, which is only 35 kilometers away from Chiu Gompa. As the primary administrative center of the Kailash region, Darchen has undergone basic infrastructure and facility development.
It is also regarded as the base camp of Mount Kailash, from where the mountain’s circumambulation (parikrama) commences. Remember to carry your snack items in the morning and hot water.

3-Star HotelDay 9: Drive from Darchen - Tarboche (4,675m) - Trek to Diraphuk (4,890m) (1st Day of Kailash Kora)
We will get up early, eat breakfast, and get ready to travel since today is the first day of the Kora. We will need thirty minutes to go the approximate 7 miles between Darchen and Tarboche (Yama Dwar).
You will enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Kailash’s west and south faces once we get to Tarboche. Probably the greatest spot to have a closed view of Kailash is here. It takes three days to complete the 52-kilometer round of Mount Kailash from Darchen to Darchen.
Namaste Nepal Trekking also arranges for horses, yaks, and porters to accompany us on the trekking portion in Tarboche. Subsequently, the circumambulation participants will travel to Diraphuk, and the remaining group will return to Darchen to await the return of the people following their parikrama.
The first day’s walk is only approximately 10 km long (from Yama Dwara to Diraphuk), and it takes between 5 to 7 hours to complete.
Because of the extreme elevation, we may get very tired and often need to stop for a break on the route to Deraphuk. Nevertheless, the entire trail is very flat with a mild ascent. The last few kilometers of the trip are difficult and quickly ascending. However, it only lasts for 30 minutes.
At an elevation of 4920 meters, Deraphuk is situated. It’s only a few thousand meters to the north face of Mount Kailash from here. You cannot get a closer look of the north face anywhere else than here. To save your memories of this wonderful sight, don’t forget to take some selfies and pictures.
When you arrive in Dirapuk, check into the guesthouse where you will be staying and having dinner this evening. It is recommended that you relax as much as possible to ensure your health for the trip the following day because it will be extremely cold and there won’t be much oxygen in the air.
Note: With the assistance of the Tibetan guide and on a direct payment basis, anyone who would like to hire a horse or pony and porter may do so. They will choose the horse and porter with the name coupon they receive (the same horse or porter will go with you).
Also if you wish to avoid the journey due to health difficulties you can take a rest in the hotel and wait for others to complete the Kora.

Guest HouseDay 10: Trek from Diraphuk to Zutulphuk (4,790m) via Dolma-La Pass (5,660m) (Kailash Kora)
This is the longest and most difficult journey of the Kailash Mansarovar Tour. To get to Zuthulphuk(4,790m), we must hike over 22 miles through tough terrain. To complete the trek in time we need to start our journey early in the morning.
Pack your all belongings and get ready for a hike in the early morning around 5. From Diraphuk, the hike is initially upward, but after an hour or two, the trail begins to gently ascend.
It makes sense that we would experience headaches and dyspnea if we hike for half of the trail’s height of 4900 meters/16,000 feet or more.
However, we should make an effort to move at a steady and slow speed. Also don’t forget to keep your body hydrated all the time. Drink enough water during the trek.
We will arrive at the highest point of this heavenly journey, the “Dolma La pass (5600m),” where we will see Tibetan prayer flags flapping, after roughly 4 hours of hard trekking.
We’ll find ourselves close to a tiny glacier lake after gently descending from the pass. ‘Gauri Kunda’ is this. The trail quickly descends from Gauri Kunda into a region covered in large boulders and loose stones. We are not even allowed to utilize the horse in this passage if you have taken it.
Once we descend from Gauri Kunda, it will take us approximately 1.5 hours of walking to reach the valley bottom. The trail is flat and easy after this. To go to Zutulphuk, it takes three hours to walk from this location.
After we reach Zuthulphuk we will stay in the guest house and eat a well deserved dinner and take a good rest. Zuthulphuk is famous for the Cave of Miracles, where the great ascetic Milerappa is believed to have performed miracles.
