Best Time for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek
Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is possible to do throughout the year. Although it is possible to trek through the year, different seasons bring their own sets of challenges and adventures. Let’s explore the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek in different seasons.
Spring Seasons(March, April, May)
The spring season which spans from March to May presents favourable trekking climatic conditions with suitable temperatures for trekkers. Therefore it is an ideal time for the Ghorepani poon hill trek. The morning and the evening temperatures are cold but during the day the warm temperature makes it easier for the trekkers providing a clear view of the surrounding landscape and mountain peaks.
During the spring you can expect greenery everywhere in the low-altitude areas whereas the forest in the high-altitude areas is covered with vibrant colourful rhododendron flowers. You will find a huge number of people heading to witness the beauty of the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.
Autumn (September, October, November)
Similar to the spring, autumn is another best time for trekking in the Ghorepani poon hill trek. The air, freshly washed by the monsoon rain, is crystal clear, stunning mountain scenery, and the weather is still comfortably warm. Trekking during autumn means you will also get the opportunity to witness Nepal’s popular festivals Dashian and Tihar. You can witness the culture and traditions as well as enjoy the local people.
Winter (December, January, February)
Although Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek can be taken during winter, the cold can be bitter around the Poon Hill area. You need to wear warm clothes that will protect you from the cold and chilly temperatures. Also, you can expect heavy snowfall in high-altitude areas like Poon Hill, Ghorepani and Tadapani.
Despite it being a little bit challenging to trek in the winter, trekking in the winter offers beautiful sights of snowy mountains and peaceful forests covered in white snow. This time is best, especially for the people who love to take photographs. You can capture stunning shots of the snow-covered landscapes and serene surroundings.
Monsoon/Summer(June, July, August)
During the monsoon the weather is unpredictable. Suddenly the clear sky will turn dark and you can expect heavy rainfall. The trail path will be slippery and there is a high chance of flash floods, landslides and risk of getting injured. You need to be very careful while trekking in the monsoon season.
If you like to trek in the monsoon you need to pack all clothing and gear stuff waterproof to protect you from getting wet. Monsoon means a high chance of getting sick so you need to take care of your body and keep your body hydrated all the time.
Another thing that will irritate you during the trek is Nepal’s famous Juka (leeches) and mosquitoes. Also, snakes are highly active in the forest areas. However, with the right gear and equipment and with extra care it is still possible to trek in summer.
