Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
When you arrive in Kathmandu, a representative from our company, Namaste Nepal Trekking & Research Hub will meet you at the airport. Just look for someone holding our company sign or logo outside the terminal. They’ll escort you to your hotel.
In the afternoon, we’ll have a pre-trip meeting at our office. You’ll get to meet your trek or tour leader/guide, and it’s the perfect time to ask any questions you might have. Remember to bring your passport, two passport-size photos, and a copy of your travel insurance policy (if you haven’t emailed it already). You’ll also need to sign the trip form and a non-liability disclaimer. After the meeting, you’ll head back to your hotel to rest up for tomorrow’s trek and the start of our adventure in the Himalayas.

Day 2: Flight to Lukla and Trek to Phakding
Day 2 of your unforgettable Everest Base Camp trek via Gokyo Lake starts with an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860 m / 9,383 ft). Though it only takes about 30 minutes, the flight is nothing short of exciting, offering incredible views of Nepal’s mountain ranges. Once you’ve landed, gear up for a half-day trek. The journey starts with a descent through the stunning Dudh Koshi Valley. During the busy trekking season (October, November, April, and May), flights to Lukla are often operated from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap. Once your trip is confirmed and your travel dates are approaching, we’ll provide you with the details regarding your flight to Lukla.
If your flight is scheduled from Manthali Airport, your guide will pick you up from your hotel and you will drive to Ramechhap. The drive takes about 4-5 hours, so you’ll need to depart from Kathmandu around 2 AM.
Upon arrival at Manthali Airport, you’ll board a 20-minute flight to Lukla, where you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Everest region’s mountains. After reaching Lukla, your itinerary will continue as planned!

Day 3: Trek to Namche Bazaar
After early morning breakfast, your trek starts from Phakding, where you’ll cross the Dudh Koshi River on steel suspension bridges, with chances to spot yaks and other wildlife along the way. The trail passes through the valley below Thamserku Peak, leading to the village of Monjo at 2,835 meters (9,301 feet). Day 4: Rest and Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazar
After yesterday’s significant gain in altitude, take the day off to relax and get acclimatized. Namche Bazaar, the tourist capital and the largest settlement in the Khumbu region is well-facilitated with ATMs, Internet cafes, restaurants, bakeries, and numerous shops selling both branded and local items.
Start your day with breakfast at Namechebazar while enjoying panoramic mountain views. Take a moderate hike to the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 meters (12,730 feet) for a mid-morning coffee or tea with incredible views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. By midday, head to Khumjung Village, located at 3,790 meters (12,430 feet). This charming village is rich in Sherpa culture and hospitality. Visit the Edmund Hillary School and the Khumjung Monastery, which intriguingly houses a supposed yeti scalp. For lunch, enjoy a traditional Sherpa meal at a local tea house in the village. Spend the afternoon exploring Khumjung, meeting the friendly locals, and experiencing Sherpa life. After this cultural experience, descend back to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 meters (11,286 feet). The return hike is easier, letting you enjoy the stunning scenery at a relaxed pace.

After acclimating in the lively Namche Bazaar, you’ll be ready to head into the Gokyo Valley. As you leave Namche, get ready for stunning views of the Himalayan peaks. Day 6: Trek to Machhermo
After breakfast, the trek continues with a steep climb from Dole. Day 7: Trek to Gokyo
From Machhermo, at 4,470 meters (14,665 feet), we start our morning journey to Gokyo. The trail climbs to a ridge with a sacred Chorten, offering stunning views of Mt. Thamserku (6,623 m) and Mt. Kangtega (6,782 m). To the north, the towering Mt. Cho-Oyu (8,188 m) dominates the landscape. The scenery is breathtaking with these peaks and valleys below. As we trek on, the valley opens up. The easy trail leads us past another Chorten, then on to Pangka at 4,480 meters (14,698 feet). After a quick rest, we descend to the river bank and begin a steep climb along the Ngozumba Glacier. This immense glacier is the longest in the Himalayas and is fed by the slopes of Cho-Oyu.
After a few hours of trek, We’ll finally reach Dudh Pokhari, the third and most important lake, at 4,750 meters (15,584 feet), where Gokyo village is located. Gokyo, with its backdrop of Cho-Oyu, is picturesque and offers cozy lodges and teahouses for a well-deserved rest.
In Gokyo, we explore the village as the sun sets, creating a warm glow over Dudh Koshi and the surrounding peaks. At night, the sky is filled with stars. After dinner, we go back to our teahouses, ready for more adventures ahead. The mountain silence and cool air promise a good night’s sleep, preparing us for the next leg of our Himalayan journey.

Day 8: Climb Gokyo Ri, Rest and Acclimatization
Our day start early as we gear up to climb Gokyo Ri, a majestic viewpoint at 5,357 meters (17,576 feet). The steep 3 to 4-hour trek tests our endurance, but the breathtaking views at the top are well worth it. From the summit, we can see the serene village of Gokyo and Gokyo Lakes, the vast Ngozumpa Glacier—the largest in the Himalayas—and four of the world’s tallest peaks: Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, and Cho Oyu along with many other mountains.
After soaking in the stunning sights and snapping photos, we descend to the valley for a delicious breakfast/Lunch at our cozy Guest House. With energy restored, we spend the rest of the day exploring Gokyo Valley. We visit the scenic Gokyo Lakes, known for their emerald green waters, and hike to nearby viewpoints like the Fifth and Sixth Gokyo Lakes, each offering its incredible views.
The peaceful atmosphere of the Himalayas, along with the crisp, pure air, makes for a perfect day. A special highlight is visiting the world’s highest bakery in Gokyo for some delicious meals and fresh coffee, all while enjoying a magnificent view. As the day ends, we relax back at our lodge, share stories over dinner, and reflect on our adventures. Falling asleep in our bed, we feel fulfilled and excited for what the next day will bring.

Day 9: Trek to Thagnak
Our adventure continues to Thagnak, situated at 4,750 meters (15,585 feet). If you missed Gokyo Ri the previous day, we can conquer it this morning. Gokyo Ri, standing at 5,357 meters (17,575 feet), offers stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu.
From Gokyo Ri, we’ll return to Gokyo and start our trek towards the Ngazumpa Glacier, Nepal’s largest glacier. Walking through the glacier’s unique landscape, we’ll admire the ice formations and sounds of shifting ice. We then reach Dragnak (also known as Thaknak), at 4,700 meters (15,420 feet). This remote settlement, surrounded by peaks and glacial streams, is perfect for a short rest, rehydrating, and chatting with fellow trekkers.
When we get to Thagnak, we’ll move into our accommodations and have lunch. The afternoon will be easygoing, giving us time to rest and get used to the altitude. In the evening, we’ll come together for a warm meal, sharing stories and laughs. Spending the night in Thagnak will help us recharge for the exciting days ahead in our Himalayan adventure.

Day 10: Trek to Cho La pass (5,367m/17,609 ft) to Dzongla
Today’s trek is set to be one of the most exciting but tough parts of our Everest Base Camp journey via Gokyo Lake and Cho La Pass. It’s not technically difficult, but the steep climb and glacier demand careful attention and lots of energy. We begin from Phedi and immediately face a rugged path that will challenge us.
As we climb higher, the scenery changes dramatically. Each step reveals more of the Himalayas’ serenity and beauty. By mid-morning, we’ll see a breathtaking frozen lake, its icy surface glittering in the morning sun. This lake, sitting at around 5,200 meters (17,060 feet), showcases the stunning frozen beauty of the high altitudes.
At the top of Cho La Pass (17,609 feet), vibrant prayer flags flutter in the wind, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere. The panoramic views of mountains like Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Makalu are simply breathtaking, each standing tall against the clear blue sky. As we rest, sharing smiles and quiet conversation, we know this memory will last a lifetime. The tough climb feels worth it as we absorb the spectacular moment. Starting our descent, with full hearts and lifted spirits, we take a piece of this serene mountaintop with us, inspired by Cho La Pass’s beauty and stillness.
However, Caution is key on this trek. The trails, especially on the glacier, require respect. Each step on the ice needs attention to avoid slips. Stay close to our guides who know the paths well. Walking poles and crampons can help with grip on the glacier. As we descend Cho La Pass, the scene changes. The feeling of crossing the pass motivates us. Soon, we see Dzongla Village at 4,850 meters (15,912 feet). Here, views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Lobuche dominate the horizon. In this peaceful village, we also glimpse Pheriche Village far below.
Arriving at Dzongla, we settle into our teahouses, where warmth and comfort await us after the day’s trek. Surrounded by the stunning mountain scenery, we share stories of the day’s adventures over a delicious meal as we prepare ourselves, both mentally and physically, for the next day of our journey on the Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lake and Cho La Pass.

Day 11: Trek from Dzongla to Lobuche
Today’s trek is easy and short, so we can relax and enjoy the amazing scenery. Starting from Dzongla, we’ll hike along a grassy path with Lobuche Peak in the background. The trail is smooth, with beautiful views all around. We start at 4,830 meters (15,842 feet) and pass small glacial streams and rocky areas. After about an hour, we’ll reach Thokla (also called Dughla) at 4,620 meters (15,157 feet) for a quick tea and snack break.
Next, we’ll walk through the Khumbu Glacier moraine, which is a flat riverbed area with memorials for climbers. Thokla Pass Memorial at around 4,830 meters (15,846 feet) is a touching spot. From there, the terrain flattens, leading us to Lobuche in 2 to 3 hours. Lobuche sits at the base of tall peaks and offers serene Himalayan views. We’ll arrive by midday, settle into our teahouses, and have time to rest, walk around the village, or chill out.
Lobuche is a small village with comfortable tea houses and a calm, reflective vibe, crucial for acclimatization at 4,940 meters (16,208 feet). As it gets colder at night, we’ll gather around for a warm dinner like Dal Bhat. Finally, we’ll pack our gear for an early start tomorrow as we head toward Everest Base Camp.

Day 12: Trek to Goreak Shep to Everest Base Camp (5,364m / 17,599 ft) to Goreak Shep
After a early morning breakfast, you start your trek to Everest Base Camp from Gorak Shep, which is 5,164 meters (16,942 feet) up. The rocky path gives you awesome views of a glacial pond and icebergs in the Khumbu glacier. You first cross some rugged moraine dunes and then go downhill a bit to get to Gorak Shep, an eerie place called the “Graveyard of Crows.” Don’t let the name fool you—it’s an important stop.
From Gorak Shep, you climb along the Khumbu Glacier. It’s tough with thin air, so take breaks and drink water often. You’ll see cool spots like the Changri Nup and Shar Glaciers, adding some epic beauty to the rugged terrain. After a hard climb, you finally reach Everest Base Camp at 5,364 meters (17,599 feet). This spot is the starting point for many summit climbs. Take photos, enjoy the amazing views, and chat with climbers preparing for their expeditions or sharing their stories.

Day 13: Climb Kala Patthar (5,545m / 18,192 ft) then Return to Pheriche
Our adventure starts early with a climb to Kala Patthar, also known as “Black Rock,” standing tall at 18,192 feet. From here, you get exceptional views of Everest, especially at sunrise – an unforgettable sight. The tallest peaks around, including Pumori, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam, make for stunning pictures, so don’t forget to snap a few!
After soaking in the views, we head back down to Gorakshep for a much-needed breakfast. Gorakshep, at 16,942 feet, is a key resting spot for trekkers. Then, we start our descent towards Pheriche, passing charming spots like Lobuche (16,207 feet), where you can take a breather and enjoy some tea, and the memorials at Chukpo Lari, a moving tribute to climbers who lost their lives on Everest.
Further down, we reach Thukla (15,160 feet), famous for its memorials to fallen climbers. As we go on, the scenery shifts from rocky terrains to lush green valleys. Finally, we arrive at Pheriche, at 13,780 feet. This village is a popular stop for trekkers, with lots of lodges and teahouses. It also has the Himalayan Rescue Association Clinic for altitude sickness. Settle in, explore the village, enjoy a warm dinner, and get a good night’s sleep.

Day 14: Return to Namche Bazaar
Today we’ll return back to the same city, Name Bazar. As nostalgia soars, we’ll start our day early from Pangboche (3,985m / 13,074 ft) and check out its ancient monastery. Walk along the Imja Khola River, enjoying the sound of the rushing water. Pass through Deboche (3,820m / 12,533 ft), a charming village near rhododendron and pine forests. Take a break for tea and some photos.
Next, We’ll head to Tengboche (3,860m / 12,664 ft), famous for its monastery. This is a great spot to explore the monastery, enjoy views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, and maybe catch a prayer ceremony. After lunch, descend through lush forests to Phunki Tenga (3,250m / 10,663 ft), where you can see Buddhist prayer wheels powered by the Dudh Koshi River. It’s a perfect place to relax by the river. Cross the suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and slowly ascend through pine forests, passing through Tashinga (3,450m / 11,319 ft) and Sanasa (3,600m / 11,811 ft). Enjoy the stunning mountain views along the way.
We’ll end the day’s trek by arriving at Namche Bazaar in the early evening. The busy market and cozy teahouses will welcome you. At Namche Bazaar (3,441m / 11,290 ft), you can rest, enjoy a warm meal, meet other trekkers, and settle at one of the comfortable lodges to rest, acclimate, and good night sleep.

Day 15: Trek Back to Lukla
Today is the last day of our trek through the beautiful Himalayas of the Everest Region. We’ll wake up early to have a warm breakfast in Namche Bazaar, then hike through green forests and pass several Sherpa villages. We’ll follow the peaceful Dudhi Koshi River and pass through Monjo, where you can take a break and take some final pictures. Continue descending down to Phakding and trek to Chheplung, where you can rest and reach your final destination, Lukla.
By the afternoon, you’ll reach Lukla (2,860m / 9,383 ft), marking the end of your trek. After checking into your lodge, prepare for a joyful night with your fellow trekkers and guides. Enjoy a glass of regional Chang (home-brewed rice beer) and dance in a warm fire. Lukla’s lively and serene atmosphere sets the perfect scene for your final night in the mountains. Gather around a cozy fire, share your experiences, and share the excitement of completing your trek. The night will be filled with singing, dancing, and laughter as you and your new friends celebrate the beauty of the Himalayas and your achievements.

Day 16: Fly to Kathmandu
On your final day in the Himalayas, we’ll wake up early for a morning flight back to Kathmandu. Weather can sometimes delay or cancel flights, but if that happens, you’ll get to spend some extra time in Lukla, maybe with one last tea while admiring the peaks.
Once back in Kathmandu, check into your hotel and freshen up. Thamel, the bustling area where most travelers stay, has plenty of comfy places to stay, from luxurious hotels to small guesthouses. With the rest of the day free, explore Kathmandu’s cultural heritage. Start at Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) for panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley. Then head to Kathmandu Durbar Square to see traditional architecture and landmarks like the Kumari Ghar and Taleju Temple. For history enthusiasts, the Hanuman Dhoka Palace Museum is a must.
After sightseeing, treat yourself to Thamel’s many spas and massage centers. Try a traditional Ayurvedic massage or hot stone therapy.

Once everyone is fueled up, it’s time to hit the trail and start the adventure. Each day’s trek can be anywhere between 4 to 8 hours, depending on the terrain and how far you need to go. The day typically kicks off with 2-3 hours of trekking to get into the groove and find your rhythm. This initial stretch helps you adjust to the pace and warm up your muscles for the journey ahead.
Mid-Morning Break

It’s super important to stay hydrated when trekking, but watch out for sketchy water sources. Tap water usually isn’t safe because of waterborne diseases. Instead of carrying tons of bottled water (bad for the planet), most trekkers use water purification tablets or a portable filter. Just fill up from local taps or streams and purify it yourself—cheap and eco-friendly! Some tea houses sell boiled water too, but it’ll cost you a bit more.
Communication and Internet

When you land in Kathmandu, get ready for some amazing Nepalese hospitality. Our team will be there to greet you, and it’s more than just a guy with a sign. Expect a traditional welcome with marigold garlands—like a big aromatic hug from Nepal! After that, we’ll take you straight to your hotel so you can catch up on final preparation and some much-needed sleep before your adventure begins.
The next day, we’ll dive into the details of your trek to Everest Base Camp via Gokyo Lake. We’ll go over the itinerary, sort out any paperwork, and get your trekking permits sorted.
Before you leave, we’ll have a farewell dinner to celebrate our time in the Himalayas, and you’ll get a trekking certificate. When it’s time to head home, we’ll get you to the airport with time to spare. Leaving Nepal might be a bit sad, but you’ll have fantastic memories and photos.
Currency exchange, ATM, and Card
To avoid money issues while traveling, exchange currency in Kathmandu where there are plenty of official counters. Change some money at the airport when you arrive, even if the rates aren’t great, just to be safe. Thamel is a better option, you can tell us during the Pretrip meeting to help with an exchange, and we will definitely have the best rate for you! For daily expenses and small trek needs, you must carry cash in Nepalese Rupees (NPR).
ATMs are common in the city and larger up there in a trekking town, but watch out for high fees and occasional downtime or withdrawal limits. Credit and debit cards, like Visa and MasterCard, work in major places in Kathmandu and touristy places, but in remote trekking areas, cash is your best bet. Some tea houses and lodges might take cards, but they’ll likely charge high fees.
Let your bank know you’re traveling internationally to avoid any fraud alerts freezing your funds. Bring some smaller bills too, because getting change for big notes can be tricky in remote areas.
