Trip Overview
Annapurna Base Camp Trek, also known as Annapurna Sanctuary, is the world-famous trek in the Annapurna Conservation Area at 4,130m / 13,550. This short trek near Kathmandu and from Pokhara is suitable for beginners or experienced mountain experts.
This trek offers everyone on this beautiful journey the opportunity to experience the majesty of the 10th highest peak globally, 8,091 meters, and other towering mountains.
The Annapurna Base Camp trekking trail takes you to the charming village, beautiful colorful forest, amazing landscape, farming land, river, and valleys.
During this trek, you will get a chance to reach not only one base camp but two, one Annapurna Base Camp itself and Machhapuchhre Base Camp. You can get a panoramic view of the towering mountain peaks and glaciers from this base camp.
Another major highlight of this trek is when we pass through Poon Hill which is situated at 3210m altitude. From this vintage point you can get the astonishing panoramic view of Mt. Annapurna South (7,219m / 23,684 ft), Mt Dhaulagiri (8,167m / 26,794 ft), Mt Machhapuchhre (6,997m / 22,956), Mt Hiunchuli (6,441/ 21,132 ft), and many more. Also, the early sunrise view of the mountain when the sun’s rays hit the mountain, turning golden, is impressive to watch.
The Annapurna Base Camp trek journey starts in Pokhara, which is approximately 204.8 km by road. Also, you can take a Kathmandu to Pokhara flight, which takes around 30 minutes to reach Pokhara. Then, from Pokhara, after riding for nearly 1-2 hours, you will reach Nayapul.
Following the instructions given by your guide and with the help of a porter, you will start trekking from Nayapul to Birethanti, and then you will reach Sudami.
Our next stop is Hile and then Tikhedhunga, which is situated on the bank of the Bharaudi River. Further walking through the 3500 stone steps, blooming colorful Rhododendron forest, and oak trees, we will reach Ulleri(2050m). Then, from Ulleri, we will continue our journey to Nangethanti and finally push by walking for a few hours to arrive at Ghorepani.
From the viewpoint of the famous Poon Hill, which is situated at an altitude of 3210m, you can see the jaw-dropping view of the majestic mountains. After witnessing the majestic mountains like Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Fishtail, and Annapurna I glowing in the morning sun. We will make our way to the village of Tadapani.
On the next day, we started our trek by walking downhill. We will arrive at Kimrong River. Then, walking uphill, we will reach beautiful Chhomrong village. Then, descending through 2500 stone steps, we cross the bridge above the Chhomrong River and climb uphill to reach Sinuwa.
After that, we will continue the journey through a nice forest to Kuldihar, followed by an easy descent to Bamboo. We walk through a bamboo forest that is almost as wet as the rainforest, with a few sections that are quite steep. Only at the Himalaya Hotel has the forest cleared, so we are out in the sun again, and we have magnificent vistas of the glacial river wrapped around it.
The ascent gets steeper, bringing us through a fairly dry forest before we arrive at Hinku Cave. The greenery is thinner, opening up the majestic view of the valley, the river flowing below, and the sheer of the rock cliff with the wisps of waterfalls. We are dreaming of Annapurna base camp next indeed.
Gently climb the riverbed and then hike the steep trail to the mountainside. The trek from Bagar to MBC is somewhat tense. After Machhapuchhre Base Camp, you will obtain great views of numerous snowy peaks such as Machhapuchhre, Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli, and Gangapurna which are thrilling. The vegetation fades away as we approach ABC, and the path becomes wider when we enter the Annapurna Conservancy.
This is where spectacular panoramas of Annapurna I’s sharply steep south face are revealed to us. The natural reserve offers an unobstructed view that can be described as a dynamic and 360-degree panorama. From the base camp, we again relax and enjoy panoramic views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, and many other mountains.
Backtracking from Annapurna base camp, we hike down to Bamboo again. It is a downhill road, so it shouldn’t be difficult to travel. Moreover, we will always have the company of the magnificent landscape that will rally our spirits. From Bamboo, we jostle up to Sinewa, then walk downhill to Chhomrong Khola. After this, we start climbing the stone steps to Chhomrong.
The trail goes down to Jhinu Danda where we will spend our overnight rest. Here, we can have fun in the hot springs, just a 15-20 minute easy downhill trek from Jhinu Danda. The natural hot springs water will rejuvenate your tired legs. Along the downhill path from Jhinu Danda to the new bridge and Nepali Flat, we will arrive at Syauli Bazar after walking for 3 hours. Our descent ends here, from where we drive to Pokhara.
Annapurna is waiting for you to explore and let your heart and soul fill with peace and wonder at every turn.
