Let’s hear the exciting story of Rajan from himself!
Hello and Namaste!
I am Rajan, the founder and managing director of Namaste Nepal Trekking & Research Hub. I grew up in a small village on the lap of the mountain in Gorkha. Scrolling up and down a mountain was my daily life. I completed my schooling at Siddha Kali Higher Secondary School, Gorkha, then moved to Kathmandu for further study and to find a career at the age of 15. I got the opportunity to go trekking with some trekkers as a support staff/Porter to the Langtang Valley. It was not easy for me to carry 35 kg on my back and trek for 5-6 hours a day. But that trek changed my life. I think I found my distraction on that trek! I wanted to be able to speak English with tourists, and I became a trekking guide. Slowly, I started to work for the well-established trekking company as a support staff and then as an assistant trekking guide. After I did trekking guide training in 2010, I became a professional trekking Guide.
Besides doing trekking in the high season, I continue to study as well. I did my high school and Bachelor’s Degree in Travel and Tourism Management. I never look back, my passion for traveling, being with nature, finding new places, and meeting new people takes me to the most famous trekking destinations of Nepal. Trekking reasons like Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, and Manaslu were more like my second home.
My excellent communication skills and feeling of pride and pleasure in serving my excellence to my clients led me to become one of the best guides in the mountains. I also started to lead tour groups on multi-country tours from Nepal to Tibet, Bhutan, and India. Being a part of mountain climbing expeditions made me familiar with expedition logistics and operations.
I’ve eaten meals with travelers under starlit skies, hiked through storms and sunshine, and grown with every step and soul I’ve shared the path with. From the towering peaks of Everest and the sacred trails of Annapurna, to the windswept landscapes of Mustang, Dolpa, and Manaslu—each journey has shaped me.
I’ve performed Puja with pilgrims by the holy waters of Manasarovar, walked barefoot around ancient monasteries, and crossed high mountain passes through snow and wind. I’ve stood beneath the Milky Way at Derapuk, with Mt. Kailash glowing in silence, and felt the power of something far greater than words can describe.
These experiences are not just memories—they are the roots of who I am. I come from the trails, the mountains, the stories, and the deep connections formed along the way. And it’s this path that I now walk with others, guiding them not just to places, but toward meaning.
I stand from the root of this business, and the Himalayas are not just a destination for me, they are my home.
Everything was going great, I was very close to the rich dream destination of establishing NNTR in 2015. But unfortunately, on April 1st, 201,5, a Massive earthquake, I lost so many things, including my house, my job, and some good friends. It was very sad and deprecating. But slowly but surely, I knew I would get up again and surpass my detestation. To forget the pain I had, I started to get involved in social work, and to support the local community started to volunteer across the affected areas.
Not only did the earthquake change my life, but it also led me to start my Greenhouse charity, Sustainable Steps Nepal. Some of my friends from the UK and Canada, we together started a project, Sustainable Steps Nepal. Over the past few years, this charity has been successful in supporting the local people of Gatlang Village of Rashuwa District in Nepal with fresh and organic vegetables produced to feed their families with enriched nutritional sources, as well as providing a source of income from the local markets.
Working in the tourism industry for the following years and serving my excellence to hundreds of trekkers, all I wanted was to establish my own trekking and tour company and give good support to all the people around me. It took me 3 years to finally establish Namaste Nepal Trekking & Research Hub after the earthquake. My dream was coming true; all my team was doing great work together. After the end of 2019, the whole world suffered from the COVID-19 virus. The tourism industry was one of the most affected industries by the pandemic. For my newly formed company, it was again the big break. We had to face almost a 3-year-long lockdown. But again, we raised up and became the best service provider in Nepal.
The founding of Namaste Nepal Trekking & Research Hub was a natural step—a way to offer travelers genuine, personalized, safe, and unforgettable Himalayan experiences, built from the ground up with heart and hands-on experience. With the establishment of this company, I aim to offer an enriching and personalized travel experience to travelers from all over the world. I believe that traveling not only takes you to different destinations, it also broadens your outlook and makes you a knowledgeable, compassionate, and better person. Our planet is filled with fascinating places, cultures, and people.
