Overview

A short and easy trek of just 7 - 8 days to Langtang is something everyone should try once. The Langtang Valley trek offers remarkable natural panorama, magnificent views of Mt.Langtang Lirung (7227m), Mt.Ganchenpo(6387m),  Mt.Naya Kanga(5844m), Mt.Yubra(6264 m), Mt.Langtang ll (6596m), Mt.Yella peak (5500m), Mt.Dorje Lakpa (6966m) and many more. Something that makes this trek so attractive. We can experience the magical mountains peering at us and we get to see all that from “Cherko Ri" located at an altitude of 5033m, the highest viewpoint of our trekking. And one of the most impressive Mountain View spot in Nepal.

The Langtang Valley sits within the first national park designated in Nepal – the Langtang National Park. The valley offers some of the most spectacular mountain trekking and scenery near Kathmandu. Just a half-day drive north from Kathmandu brings you to the trekking starting point Shabrubeshi. While trekking locations such as Mount Everest and Annapurna tend to capture the attention of mountain lovers, Trekking trails such as Langtang offer a fantastic Himalayan trekking and magnificent mountain scenery experience without the impact of high volume trekking groups. This makes the Langtang Valley one of those “best-kept secret” locations that only some trekkers get to experience. Langtang valley treks provide an opportunity for very short duration treks to still reach high into the heart of the Himalaya Mountain peaks that run along the border between Nepal and Tibet. There are so many opportunities for side treks, circuit treks, high mountain passes, traverses, and peak climbing all within the beautiful Langtang Valley. This trek pursues one of these opportunities and reaches the spectacular high point of Cherko Ri (5,033m) that offers stunning Himalaya Mountain and Langtang valley scenery. This is one of the most scenically rewarding treks in Nepal. You have the opportunity to marvel at countless snow-capped Himalayan summits close at hand and also challenge yourself to reach the heart-pounding altitude of 5033m.

The Langtang Region is as wild as any Tibetan highlands with peaceful rural scenery. The starting point of trekking will be Syabrubesi. From here we will follow the Langtang River to the east until we get to Kyanjin Gompa (3,950m). Heading up a gentle slope, we pass along the dramatic ridges through local villages inhabited by Tibetans, Tamang, and Sherpa people. Then we will come across the lush forest of Rhododendrons and oaks. Once we arrive at the Langtang valley we will find flapping prayer flags in the main tracks, brightly painted shortens, and Mani walls. Langtang Lirung,  Langshisa Kharka, Langtang 2, Yella peak, Ganchenpo, Yubra are the center of attraction, that we can see during the trek to Langtang Valley. We will also visit the local yak cheese factory as well as the view of the glaciers, which is also a gateway to Tibet. Then we return back to Langtang and to Lama Hotel, our trek finally comes to an end after we reach Shyafru Besi, from where we drive back to Kathmandu. This whole trip will always remain in the most sacred part of your heart, you will always cherish these memories and you will want to make more of them again and again. Happy Trekking.

Best Time for Langtang Valley Trek

Langtang Valley Trek can be done all time of the year as it is so close to the mainland of Kathmandu valley. However Spring (March, April, May) and Autumn (September, October, November) are the best months. The air, freshly washed by the monsoon rain, is crystal clear, stunning mountain scenery, and the weather is still comfortably warm.

Although Langtang Trek can be taken during winter and monsoon too, but the cold can be bitter and dangerous at high altitudes, trekking trails above 3500 meters are usually blocked by heavy snowfall. And the trails can be slippery due to the monsoon rain and you may have to trek all day under the rain without any view. Nepal’s famous Juka (leeches) are an un-pleasant feature of the wet season, but with care, trekking can still be possible and there are certainly fewer trekkers on the trail.

Reviews

My unbelievable promenade in Langtang park I arrived in Kathmandu honestly without any precise plan, only one point: be impregnated by the Nepali culture, the wild mountains and of course the adventure... I was not disappointed, Rajan has directly understood what I expected. Thanks to his flexibility and his experience, I got exactly What I wanted, and even more because he became a really good friend of mine. One important point, was that Rajan speaks fluently in English, really better than me (even if it is not complicated... I am French :)))... that way, it facilitated our communication, and allowed me to have lots of interesting conversations about the history of Nepal, the culture, the politic, the customs. During 11 days, he led me through the mountain. As he knows all the good addresses, I had only to walk and appreciate the landscape: one day I could swim in a torrent in the jungle, and the other one walk in the snow up to the top of the mountain. This diversity is the reason why Nepal is magic... Each day I had a hot meal (dal Baht <3) as much as I wished and he was necessary, due to our long walk, I was starving. I enjoyed also each night in very comfortable rooms to have a very deep rest... I walked like that up to Kyanjing village then to Gossaikunda. For me, just one hope for the future, climb up to my first 6000 in Nepal with Rajan, as soon as I will have time. But If you have the opportunity to travel with this guide, just seize it.

Going with Namaste Nepal Trekking...I haven't found better I first met Rajan Lamichhane, the principal at Namaste Nepal Trekking, in 2017. I originally intended to trek to the Annapurna Base Camp without any assistance. But after reading all the advice available online I decided to seek out a reliable guide. I hired Rajan to be my guide on this trek and was immediately impressed by his fluent English skills and his friendly manner. What a wonderful enhancement to my Nepal experience he turned out to be! His organisational skills and easy manner made me so glad I made this decision. Nepal is endowed with astonishing natural beauty and the jawdropping scenery of the Himalayas. Rajan helped me to appreciate it fully and also became my window to the fascinating cultural and spiritual traditions of the country, Rajan originally comes from an agricultural area, and with my background in farming in Australia, his knowledge amplified my experience and provided answers to all my curiosity. I was impressed with the organic methods used by the farmers growing crops like millet, potatoes, ginger, cauliflower, cabbage, peas and tomatoes, All the accommodation and catering arrangements were seamless: every guesthouse we stayed in was the best available in that village. and Rajan seemed to know everybody along the way. I found the trekking on the way to ABC was a bit tougher than I expected. Rajan suggested an amended itinerary which was more suitable to my age (mid-60s) and fitness level and allowed me to have an easier, more enjoyable time and to come home exhilarated and keen to return! I did exactly that! In October 2018 I was back in Nepal. This time there was no hesitation, I booked my holiday with Rajan's trekking company from the outset. His suggestion was a trek to the Langtang Himal. I wasn't disappointed. Once again Rajan took care of every tiny detail and made all arrangements for my holiday, all travel, permits and passes. After several hours driving in a jeep on what seemed like the worst roads and hairpin bends in the world, we reached the town where the Langtang Trek begins. Coincidentally it is also nearby to a farming village that Rajan assists through his charity activities. This time Rajan had supplied a porter to carry the bedding and other necessities. This allowed me to carry a lighter pack. This added to my enjoyment of the walking and kept me fresher and more able to absorb every detail of this astounding landscape! In the aftermath of the recent earthquake, the damage and loss of life in this valley is still obvious, the precarious existence in these remote areas is brought into very sharp focus. Yet the people in these tough areas of Nepal despite their hardship can teach us in the West a few lessons in how to keep the happiness alive. The endpoint of this trek is the village of Tsego Ri, this offers a nearby climb up to 5000m. This day outing is the closest you will get on earth to a climb up to heaven! Sublime! When back in Kathmandu Rajan arranged a wonderful trip to Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Mr Lamichhane's knowledge as a guide and his organisational skills, plus his genial manner and good humour made this trek into one of the most enjoyable holidays I have ever had. In 2019 I had the chance to realise a longstanding ambition of mine: to trek to the lakes at Gokyo in the Everest region. Because I have so much trust in Rajan's organisational skills and enjoy travelling with him so much I had no hesitation in engaging his services once again. And again it was a seamless, hassle-free experience. This trek requires a flight to Lukla to begin. Due to cloud conditions, this flight had been unavailable for many days. Rajan through his contacts was able to arrange a flight to an alternative nearby airstrip and a final push through to Lukla by helicopter. This allowed me to maintain my overall holiday schedule and not to miss any of the Gokyo itineraries. On this trek, we encountered some of the less-visited areas as well as taking in vistas of the iconic peaks. (Up at dawn to sharing the Ama Dablam views with a local monk!) Once again I could rely on Rajan's skill and experience to plan and pace the trek to take into account my age and fitness level; also to assist me when I suffered a bout of altitude sickness. My Gokyo trek culminated in breakfast on the terrace of the Everest View Hotel...it doesn't get any better than this! Based on my experience of three wonderful and varied treks with Rajan organising and guiding them, I can wholeheartedly recommend Rajan and his company Namaste Nepal Trekking to anybody planning a holiday in this fabulous part of the world!
